Kevi
The Dark Mother
Inspired by Kali
The story
Kevi is inspired by Kali, a fierce form of the Divine Mother. In the Devi Mahatmya she springs from the goddess’s brow in the middle of battle. She wears a garland of skulls and carries a sword. The demon Raktabija had a terrible gift: every drop of his blood that touched the ground grew into another demon. So Kali drank his blood before it could fall, and he was beaten. Jackals often appear with Kali in temple art, so Kevi rides Shriku, the jackal. Her blows take back some of the strength they deal.
