Bevi
The Creator
Inspired by Brahma
The story
Bevi is inspired by Brahma, the creator of the Trimurti. Brahma was born from a lotus that grew from Vishnu’s navel. His four faces look out in the four directions, and the four Vedas came from them. His consort is Saraswati, goddess of learning. He rides Hamsa, the swan, which in the stories can separate milk from water, the way wisdom separates truth from untruth. Brahma grants boons to anyone whose devotion is great enough, demons included, and many of the most dangerous demons in the old stories got their power from one of his boons. That’s why the story keeps telling Bevi to stop giving them out. Bevi rides Hamku, his swan.
